Tonight I was thinking about a conversation I had a while back with a fellow single friend of mine that still bugs me to this day.
Just over a year ago I bought a house. Well a cute unit actually, but I bought it. Not renting with ten housemates and spending all my money on frivolous but fabulous internet shopping. On my parents advice I decided to work my ass off for three years doing numerous jobs at one time to make the money for a deposit for a house. And then luck found me and I found the perfect place at the perfect time. Its not fancy or filled with sparkling new furniture but its mine.
It my own little place that I love.
So after I bought my house I was talking to my friend about an upcoming date (which dont happen very often) and she said to me
"dont tell him you own your house. guys are intimidated by that and he wont want to go out with you again"
Now two things happened in my brain.
First: Did that time machine really work and did she really just say that.
Second: Is that true?
It got me thinking. Im a very independent woman who pays all my bills, carries my own purse and buys my own everything. And my friend was suggesting because Im like that is the reason I dont go on many dates and why I dont have a boyfriend.
I told her that if a guy had a problem with my "independence" then he wasnt the right guy for me. For me I need mutual respect and equality.
I have a married friend who couldn't tell me anything about her electrical company or anything to do with household bills because her husband takes care of them.
For me that would drive me insaine. A partnership is shareing everything including the financial burdons of everyday life. For me a partener is someone to be my other half not my slave. I look for someone who works with me not for me and is strong enough and wonderful enough to accept my independence and see it for what it is, a mans independence.
Women see a single guy with his own place and think "wow what a catch" why should it be different for a man to think the same.
Im not saying having my own place is easy, its not. Its hard work. Every day I struggle with money and making sure I save enough. But in the long run I know that if I can do it then I can do anything. And thats a feeling all women should have.
So to all the independent women out there dont be ashamed. Any guy should be thankful he doesnt have to hold our purse or come clothes shopping with us. And he wont have to worry about us spending all his money because we have our own.
Im feeling very empowered and motovated after this blog I hope it inspires women out there to shine and be all they can be.
